Chris and Margaret's Gambian Experience!
Hi All
Well we arrived safely. The heat hits you as the plane door opens. We think it is hotter than last year at this time. Sarjor arrived at the hotel to meet us and discuss our agenda. It looks like we are in for a very busy time.
Week 1
Went to Brikama with Alex to see the two doctors we meet in October and look round the clinic to see the changes that they have made.
Later on we went to see Mr Fatty about the new Art centre we are going to build in remembrance of Helen Crabtree.
Binta Ceesay and Sundeh Sarr two of our sponsor children came to the hotel to see us and we paid Sundeh’s internal exam fee’s.
Chris fell ill and was in bed for a couple of days but we managed to get some antibiotic and it sorted him out.
Margaret met Barbara, one of our sponsors and they had a meal and discussed going to Fass on Wednesday to meet the child she sponsors.
Wednesday we left the hotel at 7am, picked up Barbara and two other tourists (David and Rhona) who had asked if they could come along with us. We caught the 8am ferry, a new experience for Barbara and crossed over to Barra where we picked up a landrover and drove up to Fass School. When we arrived we found the scouts and nursery children there to greet us. We went round the nursery, gave out some gifts of stationary donated by Mr and Mrs Gacia, checked on the progress of the wall, talked to the children and Barbara met her sponsor child Yahya Bob and visited his compound which was quite an emotional experience for her, she also decided to sponsor another child as did David and Rhona. We had lunch at Fass, Gambian style and then left to visit the new nursery being built at Chamin (to be called Oakes Helping Nursery). The roof is now on and it is looking good. Everyone agreed that they had had an enjoyable and interesting day
